DON'T VOTE!!! (and why it'll make a real difference)
This voting season I have decided to make a difference; I will not be voting.
"How unpatriotic," you might say to yourself as you flaunt your "I Voted" sticker around town on election day. Wonderful. You voted. For what? Ask yourself what you actually expect to change over the next four years, or the next twelve years, or in your lifetime? How demoralizing it is that we have to brag about voting by wearing these reminders. And the sad truth is that what these stickers are actually saying is this... "I bend over for government." Is it patriotic to support an utterly failed two party (which is really just one big party) system? Is it patriotic to be bullied and lied to by those in positions of political power over and over again? We feel less concerned and confused about being hoodwinked by government when we know that our friends and neighbors do nothing about it either. Yet as we look around we can all sense that the social structures that we have been told are timeless are actually collapsing around us. Today, patriotism means little more than flying the flag, barbecuing and fireworks on the 4th of July.
By choosing to stay home this election day you'll be forcing the establishment to reevaluate its choke hold, nay, its death grip on your life, your family's life, and the life of your country. Stay home and pray with your family, spend time building relationships. Laugh and make plans to live free from the toxic influence of government intrusion into your life.
Whether McCain or Obama become president will make little or no difference in the quality of the lives of Americans. What may make a difference though, is whether enough eligible voters refuse to participate in the disgusting spectacle that has come to represent faith in God and love for country.
